Job Description

As the Company's Southern Projects team continues to grow, we have a vacancy for an Assistant Project Manager to assist with the Station Delivery package of works on large Project. The station Delivery package is inclusive of the delivery of conceptual and detailed designs through to the installation, commissioning, and handover of the new OPO CCTV and associated sub-systems, such as but not limited to OPO CCTV, Wireless Access Points, Leaky Feeder, Platform Stopping Markers, CRMS and associated Civil components to allow installation.

 

Our Projects team are responsible for a major OPO Installation and Commissioning programme with LUL. This includes the deployment of new OPO CCTV assets with consideration to existing communication assets and achieving the required standards. The transformation of legacy OPO systems to modern infrastructure ensures our work helps to improve the rail passenger experience and provide an efficient operational railway.

 

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will work as part of a multi-skilled Project team, with responsibility for assisting in planning and organising the safe delivery of works to required Scope, Cost and Programme, assist in all aspects of the Project Management and Client and Internal interfaces including presenting progress at regular reviews with both management and the customer for the OPO CCTV project.

 

The role will involve assisting the Project Manager with delivery the Station delivery package of works and ensure the conceptual and Detailed design elements are completed on time and within budget with direction from the Project Manager. The Assistant Project Manager will be responsible for the below mentioned items, but not limited to,

 

  • Produce a weekly and periodic resource plan from information given by the PM’s

  • Liaise with the engineers on requirements to deliver the design on time and on budget.

  • Provide cover for the Project Managers when they are not present in maintaining works progress and information updates to both internal and external interfaces and financial information to the project to the management team.

  • Attend client meetings with the PM as required to ensure that the status of the project and agreed actions are reported and progressed.

  • Make sure proactive risk management is adhered to ensuring periodic review and action with the project team.

  • Understand and ensure the clients standards and rules are incorporated in all works undertaken.

  • Responsible for supporting the management the project finances.

  • Responsible for supporting the management timely and accurate financial applications.

  • Working with the Project Manager produce pre-delivery documentation to enable safe delivery of works.

  • Work with the Design team to resolve interface challenges between the various design teams.

  • Transmit and record documentation internally and externally using the identified media portals. Ensure a record is maintained of all document transmittals.

  • Understand follow the company's standards and processes applicable to the role.

  • Regular update of the various local delivery monitoring schedules and identify where there may be ‘gain’ or ‘lag’.

  • Capture and ‘close’ applicable comments on Asite.

Essential

  • Degree or HNC in Engineering disciple and/or working towards Project Management accreditation (for example APM Association or Prince 2)

  • Understanding how decisions affect customers and how their own behaviour impacts on the customer experience.

  • Knowledge of LU planning rules and standards.

  • Experienced portfolio of Railway Engineering Projects (or equivalent) or Demonstrable work experience will be considered.

  • Experience of presenting progress at regular reviews with both management and the customer

  • Structure own area of responsibility effectively and keep records of all open issues in a very complex working environment

  • Strong command of the English language

  • Keen problem solver

  • Strong documentation skills

  • Good communicator (both written and verbal)

  • Ability to work effectively in a team

  • Strong MS Excel skills, Conversant with MS office & Adobe

Desired

  • Knowledge of British Standards, experience of Railway standards.

  • Knowledge of SAP

  • APM Foundation or greater

  • Vocational training plus minimum 2 years working experience desirable
