Job Description

Coleman James are working with one of Yorkshires longest standing and well respected MEP Design Consultancies who are in the market for a Principal Engineer or Associate to join their Leeds office.

The purpose of this role is to provide a technical and team leadership focal point for the successful delivery of projects. Working closely with Directors, providing consistency in delivery and looking for shared opportunities.

The business works in a varied and diverse range of sectors which include Education, Residential, Industrial, Retail, Healthcare, Commercial and Data Centre with a long list of repeat clients.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Business Development (commercial)

  • Promoting the clients diversified range of services to potential clients.
  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of a concise and coherent marketing and business development strategy.
  • Reviewing financial and technical submissions/proposals; attending interviews.
  • Developing and maintaining key client relationships under all circumstances, maximising opportunities for repeat business.
  • Identify new initiatives and opportunities within the specialism and related fields.
  • Developing a project and client portfolio in support of personal progression to Director.

Project & Team Management

  • Project leadership for appropriate projects, taking ownership for sustained and productive client relationships.
  • Directing multiple projects across the business, taking responsibility for the engineering solutions while ensuring financial success.
  • Effective financial management of projects including planning, resourcing, invoicing and additional fee claims (change management).
  • Input into developing the delivery team structure and identifying staffing requirements.
  • Mentoring and coaching colleagues so that meaningful delegation can apply within the team.
  • Ensure latest learning and development initiatives are implemented as required within the team.
  • Support the management of reward and recognition of the team
  • Managing the team appraisal process whilst identifying and dealing with performance
  • Ensuring utilisation and efficiency are driven through all projects within the PD and personal portfolio.

Technical Leadership

  • Ensure delivery of the process of high-level project technical/quality reviews of specifications, reports, drawings and all delivered content produced by the team.
  • Direct the engineering design excellence within the team and ensure dissemination of ‘best in class’ to the rest of the business.
  • Share and impart knowledge to support and encourage the development of others.
