How did you join the team at Coleman James?

I was already familiar with Coleman James and the brilliant work they do. One day, Jemma Foster, our People and Development Manager, reached out and asked if I was interested in a role at Coleman James, and it caught my attention.

What stood out the most throughout the whole process was the communication. From my initial conversations with Jemma to learning more about the role itself, everything was clear, transparent and well structured.

Having come from a recruitment background, it was refreshing to see how differently Coleman James operates. Their approach is incredibly through and every stage is carefully controlled, from screening candidates to ensuring all compliance and right-to-work documents are in place.

I’ve learned a lot throughout my career, but I was excited by the chance to be part of a business that delivers recruitment in such a considered and professional way.

What does a typical day look like for you?

As a Delivery Consultant within the Facilities Management division, a large part of my day is spent sourcing candidates and matching the right people to the right roles.

I work very closely with Charlotte Smart, Managing Consultant, and we’ve built a great working relationship, which makes a huge difference day to day.

Culture is really important to me, and Coleman James has a great environment where it's easy to build relationships and feel part of a team. There’s a lot of trust here; if you want to try something new or approach things in your own way, you’re supported in doing so.

The Facilities Management sector is constantly evolving, so staying up to date is important. By building strong market knowledge, you naturally become more connected and can generate stronger leads.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

The buzz of securing offers. Recruitment can often be a long process, which makes the result even more rewarding. Seeing everything come together, from the initial search to placing the right candidate in the right role, is a great feeling.

Having built several years of experience in recruitment, that sense of achievement hasn’t faded. Knowing the work put in behind the scenes from our incredible team has contributed to someone securing a new opportunity is what makes the role so enjoyable.

What are the key ingredients for a successful career in recruitment?

Drive, resilience and a strong work ethic are essential for a successful career in recruitment. Working in recruitment can be demanding, so staying motivated makes all the difference.

Being results-driven is also important. Having clear goals and the determination to achieve them helps, even when things don’t go to plan. Those who are willing to put the effort in and stay consistent are the ones who see the greatest success.

What advice would you give to anyone considering a career in recruitment?

My advice for anyone starting a career in recruitment is to be prepared to work for your rewards - nothing comes easy, but the results are worth it. Recruitment is very much a case of getting out what you put in.

Confidence in your own approach is also key. If you believe in the way you work and have ideas on how to do things differently, you’re trusted to take ownership of that. Having the freedom to work in a way that suits you, alongside strong support from the team, makes a huge difference.

What training and support is available at Coleman James?

I’ve been really impressed with the training and support at Coleman James. The approach is more structured than many other businesses, which provides a solid foundation and ensures consistency across the team.

This includes thorough follow-ups on candidate successes and careful checks to ensure all documentation is in place.

Processes are clear, thorough, and designed to get you up to speed quickly without cutting corners.

Why would you recommend starting a career at Coleman James?

There are many great things about working at Coleman James, from clear opportunities for progression to regular team socials that bring everyone together.

Alongside that, the atmosphere in the office is great. It’s a close-knit team where communication is strong, support is always there, and people genuinely enjoy working together - even spending time together outside of work.

Being part of a smaller team creates a collaborative environment where everyone feels valued and connected.
