Job Description

The purpose of the role is to contribute CAD to allocated rail programmes, undertaking designer duties and delivering to time / quality and budget. You will ensure that industry and safety standards are complied with in the process.

The role will involve:

  • Assist Engineers to meet project requirements and deadlines
  • Produce CAD drawings using AutoCAD (LT) or Draftsight in order to meet agreed specifications.
  • Process project related documentation using in-house computer system.
  • Assist with the compilation of project related manuals for clients to meet delivery deadlines.
  • Assist in the development of company design standards applicable to engineering.
  • Ensure compliance with all Quality Assurance Procedures and current legislation / standards.
  • Ability to read drawings and interpret designs survey information.
  • Knowledge of system design, including general arrangements, schematic diagrams, cable schedules etc.
  • Knowledge of British & European Standards.
  • Work to current Network Rail Standards, Health & Safety regulations.
  • Provide support and assistance to the Rail SISS business development/sales team.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to the Rail SISS business development/sales team.
  • Investigate any problems with site installations and make modifications if required.
  • Review proposed specifications, designs and delivery of multi-disciplinary engineering associated with Projects. Responsible for the acceptance and "sign off" of these documents.
  • Produce customer and internal reports.
  • Interface with the Client and work to project deadlines.
  • Work to current Rail Standards, Health & Safety regulations.
  • Comply with CDM Regulations.
  • Monitor site teams as a Principal Contractor.
  • Assist sales with bid opportunities and presentations.
  • Fault finding whilst on site.
  • Supporting other engineers within the team.
  • Produce 2D engineering drawings
  • CAD design role to produce 2D CAD designs for rail infrastructure and system design projects.
  • Interrogate digital models for accuracy, correctness, compatibility and compliance to standards.
  • Integrate 2D models with those of other providers.
  • Participate in technical discussions with the team to develop solutions
  • Develop drawings from Engineering survey notes and measurements.

Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum of 3+ years AutoCAD
  • Competent user of 2D AutoCAD
  • Circuit board design
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • HND degree (or equivalent experience) in electrical engineering
  • Knowledge of industry standards and ability to translate to CAD
  • Ability to identify hazards in designs
  • Any exposure to working on rail infrastructure, telecommunications, CCTV, communications systems, or similar engineering projects.
