Job Description

Our client is seeking an Associate Director – Mechanical Engineering to lead the strategic delivery, technical excellence, and growth of their mechanical discipline across a diverse portfolio of complex projects, including hyperscale data centres, advanced manufacturing facilities, commercial developments, and large-scale mixed-use schemes.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing global business who specialise in the delivery of MEP services across various critical infrastructure and large scale commercial sectors.  This is a senior leadership role combining deep technical expertise, commercial accountability, and the ability to influence project direction at the highest level.

 

Key Responsibilities:

•             Provide strategic leadership for the mechanical discipline across concept design, detailed design, tender, construction, and commissioning stages.

•             Drive technical excellence, ensuring all mechanical design output meets project, regulatory, and industry requirements.

•             Lead major projects and act as the primary mechanical representative in senior client meetings, design reviews, and progress workshops.

•             Collaborate closely with electrical, structural, architectural, and sustainability teams to ensure coordinated and fully integrated solutions.

•             Oversee project budgeting, forecasting, risk management, and resource planning to ensure efficient and profitable delivery.

•             Develop proposals, support work winning activity, and nurture long term client relationships to support strategic business growth.

•             Approve high level engineering reports, specifications, schedules, and tender documentation.

•             Stay ahead of industry advancements, regulations, and technology trends, driving innovation within the mechanical team.

•             Lead change control processes, ensuring scope, risk, and programme impacts are tracked and communicated.

•             Mentor, coach, and develop mechanical engineers at all levels, strengthening the talent pipeline and promoting continuous improvement.

•             Support business wide planning, capability development, and the mobilisation of major new projects.

 

Skills & Experience

•             A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or equivalent experience.

•             Extensive experience delivering mechanical building services solutions across large scale or technically demanding projects (e.g., mission critical, healthcare, life sciences, commercial).

•             Ideally Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or senior level equivalent, with membership of CIBSE, IMechE, or an equivalent institution - not essential

•             Deep expertise across mechanical systems including HVAC, cooling technologies, ventilation, heat recovery, hydronic systems, chilled water, DX systems, and energy efficient plant solutions.

•             A strong understanding of low carbon design, sustainability standards, and the integration of energy efficient strategies aligned with Net Zero Carbon goals.

•             A clear understanding of related disciplines (electrical, public health, structural, architectural) to ensure coordinated, integrated building services design.

•             Exceptional communication and presentation skills, capable of leading high-level discussions with clients, stakeholders, and senior internal teams.

•             Proven capability to lead multidisciplinary teams, manage resourcing, drive quality, and deliver complex projects on time and within budget.

•             Proficiency with design and modelling tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, IES, Hevacomp, and Microsoft Office.
