Job Description
As M&E Manager, you will be expected to use your technical, commercial, contractual, programming and time awareness skills as part of a project team, to deliver design, construction and commissioning solutions that meet our contractual obligations, allowing for the proposed construction budget, methodology and programme, whilst also ensuring that installations are of the right quality and recognise current legislation, standards, and codes of practice.
In this role, you will be responsible to the Managing Director, Construction.
Key Responsibilities
Group
- To serve as the key point of contact for all OpCo M&E matters including those from Small Works and Facilities.
- To support Facilities with technical guidance on defects.
- To provide Line Management support to the Facilities M&E team (2 plumbers / 2 electricians)
- To support the Pre-Construction team on major projects by reviewing the M&E Package documents, reviewing quotations, and as required meeting the M&E Designers, sub-contractors to ensure we have covered off all risk and ensure robust scopes of work and costings.
- Liaise with the Department Heads to ensure all drawings, schedules, information requirements or answers to queries are requested and received in sufficient time to avoid delay and disruption.
OpCo (Construction)
- To act as the key conduit and point of contact in the Construction OpCo to oversee M&E packages of work when using external sub-contractors. Operating Cradle to Grave of each project this will involve:
- The lynchpin of the project team reporting to the Construction Manager, you will be responsible for the successful delivery of the MEP packages from construction, commissioning through to handover.
- Vetting quotations for M&E Packages.
- Reviewing drawings for Design and Build projects and providing comments to the design manager for issue as needed to Designers.
- Reviewing drawings for traditional contracts M&E packages and issue appropriate RFI if more information is required to allow us to build.
- Attending pre commencement/pre award meetings.
- Attending Design Team Workshops as required.
- Attending Coordination Meetings, M&E Progress Meetings.
- Monitoring quality, progress and installation correctness.
- Coordinating the M&E aspects of project completion including witnessing commissioning and testing.
- Ensuring effective M&E Handover and snagging process at completion.
- Vetting the O&M information supplied.
- Driving and advising on Value Engineering on M&E packages.
- Provide stakeholder management/client liaison role ensuring client and key stakeholders are clearly communicated with and to establish good working rapport to ensure the smooth running of the projects.
- Communicate with clients and sub-contractors to inform and as required, resolve any issues which may occur and provide timely accurate feedback from the client and sub-contractors on progress to date.
- Check all paperwork as defined in the company procedures including the compilation of risk assessments and method statements etc.
- Seek opportunities to value engineer the MEP works.
- Ensuring Project compliance with building regs.
- To minimise risks associated with the projects and involvement with VE.
- Full management of the M&E subcontractors and other relevant external/internal agents.
- Health and Safety input and supporting site management and safety procedures.
- Managing the commissioning process.
- Assist in ensuring timely clearance of any defects and snagging.
- Review and Check M&E Designs to ensure effective coordination and timely production of information to ensure the project programme is not impacted.
- Assist the Commercial Team where required on M&E Valuations.
- Support in the production of M&E O&M manuals provided on handover.

- Ensuring the Company’s QEMS procedures are followed as they relate to Construction, and offering suggestions as to their development and improvement
- Encouraging and developing teamwork both within your team and between teams, internally and externally.
- Have an excellent understanding and are compliant with the processes outlined in IP05

General requirements
- You will be expected to maintain the highest levels of confidentiality at all times regarding the company and its Clients. You must also work efficiently and safely at all times in accordance with the appropriate training, the Company Safety Policy and HSE guidelines.
- Your ability to relate well with Clients and Staff and to maintain high professional standards is very important, alongside your ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner both in writing and verbally. In doing so you must also ensure an appropriate standard of dress and personal appearance is maintained at all times.
- You should demonstrate and use initiative to carry out work with minimal supervision, including the skills to prioritise and work to strict deadlines whilst being thorough and paying close attention to detail. This will be reinforced by demonstrating an enthusiastic, flexible and conscientious approach to work.
- Once inducted, you should demonstrate a clear understanding of the Company's structure, values and procedures, including the QEMS. In relation to this, you must advise your line manager immediately of any visits to site by external agencies such as the Health & Safety Executive, Environmental Health Officers etc.
