Job Description

Our client provides building consultancy, construction, installation and process engineering nationwide. The business operates major contracts which can include principal contracting, large scale subcontracting and specialist services.

 

The Mechanical Estimator should:

- Integrate successfully with the existing business, relevant departments and staff

- Foster excellent relations with clients, staff and suppliers

- Provide quality services 

- Bring new ideas to the business to enhance the client's brand

- Have the capacity to deliver a diversity of requirements within a working day

- Have a flexible approach to work load 

- Be prepared to travel throughout the UK

 

Purpose and Objectives:

Provide the enthusiasm and energy to ensure that our client successfully fulfills its objectives and long term strategy.

The key objectives of the role are to:

- Compile the mechanical content of our tender bid submissions

- Produce accurate estimates and to negotiate successful tenders through to hand-over with the delivery teams

- Gather and analyse all necessary data in order to get a sense of how much the project is likely to cost, and relay this back to the client

- Work closely with the mechanical director and, when appropriate, the electrical estimating team to ensure all key deliverables and deadlines are met

- Engage with subcontractors and specialist supply chain to obtain proposals and determine cost certainty and compliancy

- Establish a good understanding of the tender project and identify any risks or areas open to value engineered solutions

- Establish close working relationships with the client, consultants and suppliers supporting the tender

 

Specific duties will include estimating, bid writing and tender processing.

Candidate Profile

Personal Qualities & Experience:

- A levels including English
- Relevant Engineering degree or HNC, preferably Mechanical or Mechanical Building
Services
- Experience in an Estimating role, pricing work and bid writing
- Excellent research, writing and checking skills, with close attention to detail
- Excellent IT skills
- Good time-management and organisational skills
- Proven report writing capabilities
