Job Description

Coleman James are working with a North East based contractor who deliver regional and national framework contracts, refurbishment and fit-out across a number of sectors. They have an enviable track record, excellent relationships with key clients, and a growing order book which is driving rapid expansion in their workload.

A recent restructuring of the management team has created an opportunity for an ambitious General Manager to help lead the business through the next stage of its growth.

The ideal candidate will have experience leading a team and managing the daily operation of a business. They will have a broad range of responsibilities, including the following:


  •          Take day to day responsibility for the smooth running of the business, including full P&L responsibility.
  •          Support the business development activities and engage with key clients to ensure maximum customer retention through effective account management.
  •          Manage and mentor our team of employees and subcontractors, ensuring that we get the best out of each member of the team, and take primary responsibility for recruitment, retaining and monitoring staff, as well as conducting performance reviews and dealing with any disciplinary issues.
  •          Recruit and train new employees, helping to identify and meet any training needs, and ensure that the company Health & Safety policy is understood and adhered to by all staff, and update/revise it as necessary.
  •          Ensure that quality of work and high standard of customer service is maintained.



  •          Strong leadership and management skills, with experience of managing a multi-disciplinary team.
  •          Strong administrative and financial skills
  •          Able and willing to make decisions following consideration of options based on best available information, able to demonstrate an ability to implement a solution-orientated approach to resolve issues.
  •          Ability to work under pressure to deadlines, and a flexible attitude towards work in order to deal with a variable and demanding workload.
  •          Experience of running a mechanical or electrical contractor would be a considerable advantage but is not essential - this role is more focussed on leadership than the nuts and bolts of what we do.
  •          Strong communications skills.
